BIRCKHEAD is led by award-winning saxophonist and composer Brent Birckhead. This eclectic jazz group captivates audiences with a blend of straight-ahead swing and elements of R&B, soul, and funk. The music honors traditional jazz while embracing sonic experimentation and popular styles.
A Howard University alum (BME, MM), Birckhead was named ‘Best Blues/Pop/Rock Soloist’ and ‘Outstanding Instrumental Jazz Soloist’ by Downbeat Magazine, and ‘Best Alto Saxophonist’ by Washington City Paper. He has performed with legends Lauryn Hill, Nas, George Duke, SWV, and Wale, showcasing his genre-defying talent.
